Librarian of Congress visits Marysville Library
Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden, Ph.D, and U.S. Rep. Rick Larsen, D-Wa., visited the Marysville Library on Thursday, Aug. 1, 2019. Host for the visit was Sno-Isle Libraries Executive Director Lois Langer Thompson and Marysville Library Manager Eric Spencer. Also speaking at the gathering was Martin Munguia, President of the Sno-Isle Libraries Board of Trustees.
Hayden and Langer exchanged donations of books to their respective organizations. Hayden and Larsen also participated in a storytime program, reading books to a room of more than 100 children along with adults.
Appointed by President Barack Obama in February 2016, Hayden is the first woman, the first African American and the first professional librarian appointed to the post in more than 60 years.
Prior to her current post, she served as CEO of the Enoch Pratt Free Library in Baltimore. She was nominated by President Obama to be a member of the National Museum and Library Services Board in 2010 and confirmed by the U.S. Senate later that year. She began her career with the Chicago Public Library and served as President of the American Library Association (2003-04).
