Very Early Picture For Me
In probably July 1978 or 1979 I took the following picture of BN 93 sitting alongside the roundhouse in Fort Madison Iowa. I had thought the negative had been lost. Till it was found yesterday! This was before I actually started shooting trains as at that time I did not have a car, and did not live close to the tracks in KC. However there was usually 2 weeks spent with grandparents in the summer in Fort Madison Iowa, where the nearest track was a CB&Q branch, 1.5 blocks away. The transcon was 7 or 8 blocks away. So my favorite railroad company was and still is the Santa Fe main from KC to Fort Madison. But my favorite branch line was the BN Fort Madison to Stockport branch which was ripped up in 1980. At that time Bn had 2 engines baed in Fort Madison, SW1 93, 95. One used for the peavine and the other for local switching. Also at the time I had no real knowledge of railfan photography but got lucky on occasion, plus using a 1950's era Tower brand rangefinder did not help.
