Ely Cathedral, The 'Ship of the Fens'

    Newer Older

Ely Cathedral, the Ship of the Fens. So described as at one time this huge cathedral was visible from far across the fens, and its shape likened to that of a ship. Now with housing all around it it is a job to get a photo without other man made objects in the frame, none the less a beautiful place to visit. If only the planning departments would look at what they are doing before doing it.

You did a great job minimizing the number of distractions in the scene!

An awe inspiring sight. A truly spectacular Cathedral. I've also been past it on the train - and got goosebumps! Once you've seen Ely you never forget it. You can't say that about alot of cathedrals.

...not that any cathedral could be described as bad! ...it's just that many do look alike, which cannot be said about Ely.

I remember this building - visited the cathedral in 1967, at that time as a pupil. I brought with me several slide pictures.
