Seven Liter Ford GT40 Mk. II at Daytona 1967

Out of the six GT40 Mk. II factory Ford racecars entered in the 1967 Daytona 24 this was the only one to finish. All the others succumbed to faulty transmissions. No less than twelve transmissions were replaced but they were all faulty due to improperly heat treated output shafts. This car was driven by Bruce McLaren and Lucien Bianchi. Ford was the overwhelming favorite to win this race because they had the numbers (6) compared to Ferrari (3). They also had seven-liter cars compared to the four-liter Ferraris. Despite all those advantages for Ford the three Ferrari prototypes came home 1-2-3. In the midst of the Ford - Ferrari War it was one of the greatest comebacks in the history of motor racing.
