Ford GT 40's at the 1964 12 Hours of Reims.

You see three of the factory Ford GT40's on display prior to the start of the 1964 12 Hours of Reims. None of these cars finished. In fact they went out quite early in the race. Ferrari dominated the race taking the first four positions with Porsche coming in 5th, 6th, and 7th. The Ford problems were as follows: Crankshaft, Engine, Gearbox. Two Shelby Cobra Coupes went out with cracked gearbox casings. History will show us that Ford will eventually overcome those teething problems and become a real winner in the late 60's when Shelby took over the GT40 program in late 1964. Just a few months later a GT40 would win at Daytona in January of 1965.

Thanks to Doug Seeley for the photo and Dave Kutz for the event info.
