Winning Shelby GT40 - Daytona 65

Remarkably less than nine months after taking over the GT40 project from Ford, Shelby American produced a winner at the 1965 Daytona 2000 Kilometer. The car was driven by Ford's favorite driver Ken Miles and Lloyd Ruby. Miles and Ruby would repeat this win at the Daytona 24 the following year in a Ford Mk. II. This is a Ford Racing Archives photo that I colorized. Tragically Ken Miles would die while testing the infamous Ford J-car at Riverside in August of 1966. Note: The first four finishing cars in this race were all Shelby products...GT40, Daytona Coupe, GT40 and Daytona Coupe. The Shelby legend was firmly cemented by this race. Photoshop enhanced.
