Andretti - Binanchi Ford GT40 Mk. II at Le Mans 1966
One of the battles in the Ford - Ferrari War (1963-67) took place at the holy grail of endurance racing, known as the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Ford arrived with two teams of cars in the form of Shelby-American and Holman & Moody / Essex Wire Corp. Ford's 7.0 V8 GT40 Mk. II's came in 1-2-3 for a clean sweep at Le Mans. Of the 13 GT40's entered in the race only three would finish. The car in the photo only made 97 laps in the race and was driven by Mario Andretti and Lucien Bianchi. Ford Photo.
