Sports car races at the newly opened Daytona Speedway.

In 1959 the Daytona International Speedway was brand new and besides stock car races Bill France wanted to make his racing venue a one-stop for all kinds of racing including international endurance racing. He allowed Sports Car Club of America to put on a number of sports car races that used the tri-oval as well as the infield course. Note in this photo the cars are going clock-wise around the tri-oval instead of what they do today. Photo courtesy of Randy Cook.
