Description: Cabinet card is a reproduction of an earlier portrait of Oran M. Roberts at age 20. Oran Milo Roberts (1815-1898), lawyer, governor of Texas, Senator and President of Texas Secession Convention in Austin, was instrumental in passing the ordinance that caused Texas to secede from the Union in 1861. In postwar years, Roberts served as Chief Justice of the Texas Supreme Court, and was elected governor of the state for two terms, beginning in 1878. There are several other portraits of O. M.
