Five injured by early morning 3-alarm fire in East San José
On Monday, January 10, 2012 member of the San José Fire Department responded to confirmed reports of a working fire in a two-story apartment building housing senior citizens. First due Engine and Truck Company 2 arrived on scene to discover a well-established fire in four of the eight units.
Engine 2 firefighters quickly deployed their deck gun using tank water, while other members initiated evacuations and search and rescue operations aided by police and neighbors.
As the fire quickly spread additional alarms were struck bringing some 50 firefighters to the scene. By the time the fire was contained 16 residents had been displaced, and five had been transported to area hospitals. One victim is listed as being in serious condition with severe burns, while the others were treated for minor injuries.
