blood oranges, some red

    I got this mixed batch where some were barely pink! Boo. I will be completely honest here and say that I don't find anything particularly special about the flavor of blood oranges, so without the color, they're just, you know, oranges. Fortunately, this last one came through and my First World Problems could be put to rest for another recipe.

      It's nice to see someone else call blood oranges out on their flavor. I keep purchasing them thinking one I find is going to be as great as everyone tells me, but I'm not finding a flavor any better than the navels I prefer. The cake looks delish though.

      I totally taste the difference in blood oranges. Not necessarily better, but definitely different. The characteristic flavor always reminds me of baby aspirins, weirdly.

      Different, not necessarily better. But, I will always buy them. We eat with our eyes first, and just seeing those segments mixed up with other citrus fruits, I want to dive in. Like so.

      Gimmee a straw, I can clean that cutting board for you! Seriously, the most depressing part about dealing with citrus is all the yummy juice that escapes!

      I'm with bchime, I totally taste the difference in blood oranges... they taste more tart / raspberryish to me. And Cara Cara oranges (the pink ones) don't have as strong flavor to me. But now, I wonder... could I tell the difference blindfolded? Hm...
