      Yes, somen are generally thinner than udon.

      Yup, that's definitely it. Nevertheless, I don't recommend somen for a heavy peanut sauce like this. It's too much for their delicate nature. I usually get a dark brown buckwheat noodle, but what can I say? Garden of Eden has a thing against stocking Asian noodles. Also Asian brands of sesame oil. It was totally aggravating, yet not enough to get me to march elsewhere (because of the Lazy, once again).
