I found an old La Corona cigar box in a room full of dusty discarded lab items from the 30s in the basement of HEP at Cal Tech in the mid 80's. It has a 1932 date on the customs stamp. I know Einstein smoked a pipe which he is hiding in his hand in the photograph, but he was also known to enjoy a fine Havana cigar from time to time. I also know he was there in 1932 and 1933. I still have the box and every once in awhile I imagine him enjoying one of these fine cigars during one of his stays at Cal Tech.

Einstein is front and center, so at the time the picture was taken, he was probably the best known. Certainly, if the picture was taken by a member of the press, that is how they would have been posed.
