Apple TV has overheated again

Doing the freezer trick.

When will Apple finally admit that electronic equipment doesn't nt work too well when it's too hot - and that they should have included a fan in this thing.

Mount it outside during cold weather and get some long cables. During hot weather keep it in the freezer and use the same long cables.

I do that when I forget to shut down my laptop and put it in my bag.

I wish it were only Mac stuff. I have a GPS that has Windows mobile edition in it. It locks up when it gets only mildly warm. Treos have the same problem. :(

hmmm. mine gets warm, but never overheats like that. Plus, I have it on its edge, not flat.

Fan would cramp apple's style. Fashion over function.

    haha nice one.

i recall my old titianum powerbook used to keep my lap hot in winter.

Deacon Blues: Yeah. When the Apple TV isn't overheating, it's an awesome device. From now on, I'm keeping it unplugged when I'm not using it. That seems to be doing the trick - now I can watch two movies in a row with absolutely no overheating problems. I just don't leave it plugged in 24/7 anymore like I used to.

    alpha_harblo: LMAO at your humor!

    itsmeallan: LOL

_xtian, hirosan, and Matty v3.0: Indeed. Apple doesn't seem to belive in fans for some reason.

tbiley: Otter Pops and frozen breakfast sandwiches. :-)

hoosierguy: LMAO! I didn't keep in in the freezer for more than about 15 minutes. No problem with condensation as I didn't let it get REALLY cold.

    John: It works. :-)

    Nirava: Hahahaha. Thanks.

iamagrenade: I was careful - it was only in the freezer for about 15 minutes. I didn't let it get REAL cold. :-)

cabrillo1542: Ouch. I occasionaly have that problem with my Treo when it's mounted in the windshield and in the sun while I'm using the GPS function in my car.

    7D7: LOL. You're probably right.

Tom Lemos: I keep it on its edge now - and I unplug it when I'm not using it.

    Art: LMFAO!!!

    saintjason: Indeed. LOL

kosh79: Hahaha. Must have been nice on a cold winter day/night. :-)

Deacon Blues: Yeah, though it's not too big of a deal since I don't use the thing more than a couple of times a week.

HELLO!!!!! why would u think they wouldnt put a fan in there, THEY TOTALLY DID, DUH! dont jump to conclusions, they have a small fan that pushes air out of the rightside of the machine, but it doesnt do much, i have made a little box around it with a fan to keep it cool, but seriously, they should put a more powerful fan it the system.

  15. slworking2 76 months ago | reply

naluaspencer: Ah, so there really is a fan? Yeah, they definitely should have put a much more powerful fan in, then. :-)

  16. Logan S! 67 months ago | reply

Yeps! I think that they definetely should put a more powerfull fan in there too. Because it really does get hot, maybe a fan like the on in a Time Capsule:-)

  17. slworking2 67 months ago | reply

Logan S!: Indeed. It's nice that Apple gives so much attention to style, but they really should have thought the design of this device out better.

  18. Logan S! 67 months ago | reply

Agreed, I mean in that device cooling is key, and they also could have designed their MacBook unibodies cooling better, cuz If I overclock mine, it gets pretty hot

  19. slworking2 66 months ago | reply

Logan S!: Yeah. Maybe Apple will keep that in mind for the next versions of each device. :-)
