Zaporozhets ZAZ 966 in Scharfenstein. 1992
Already with the new United Germany registration ZP for Zschopau in Saxony, home of the MZ motorcycle.(rather an appropriate registration for a ZaPorozhets!) Scharfenstein was famous for the expansive VEB DKK refrigerator works which at that time still employed a large number of people; Behind the Zaporozhets is a pile of metal pallets associated with the DKK business. It produced about 1 million fridges and freezers per year, and after privatisation (becoming Foron) it pioneered non-Chlorofluorocarbon freezing systems using propane, and butane. DKK was actually founded by the Firma „Zschopauer Motorenwerke J.S. Rasmussen" to exploit a niche in the german market in the 1920s
Already the ZP Kennzeichen is consigned to history. Vehicles in this area are licensed in Marienberg, near the Czech border, with the Kennzeichen MEK - Mittlerer Erzgebirgs Kreis.
A slide of the same car at the same time and place shows the colour.
Thanks to Ivan Goliadze, I can now label this as a ZAZ 966
