The Catcher in the Rye cover by Michael Mitchell

    Newer Older

A Michael Mitchell dust jacket design.

The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger.
    Grosset & Dunlap, 1952.

An estate sale purchase this morning. Even though it is the 1952 reprint edition and not the first by Little, Brown and Company, I was still excited to get this for a dollar. The dust jacket features the same design as the first, and is quite striking (and in near perfect shape).

I love it! Not only is it a great book, but it's a fantastic dust jacket illustration. I'm more than happy to replace our dog eared paperback copy with it.

Yeah it's a pretty great design. I've been tempted to pick up the current paperback version with this cover to replace the plain white one that I have.

I purchased mine at reed books in Birmingham It is the most cluttered jam packed book store I have ever been to If your ever in Brmingham go by there you will be there all day.

With that kind of recommendation, I'll definitely make it a destination if we ever are in the area! We have a couple new book stores on out list of stops this weekend ... hopefully they're half as good as Reed Books sounds! Thanks for the tip!
