baby turtle balancing act

    Newer Older

I snuck down to the waters edge and snapped a few of this guy from my belly.
Normally, I can't get close to the turtles at the wetlands. They are very skittish and dive into the water at the slightest provocation. This little guy, about 4 inches long, seemed to not care at all that I laid down close to him.

You can always tell if I had a good day or bad day shooting, by how dirty I get. Today I was filthy.

I thought it was a surfacing crocodile, not a rock!

Amazing what you capture. You must spend a lot of time.

I've looked very hard. I'm not convinced it isn't a crocodile. Looks suspiciously like scales there on the right.

      Jan~n,

Crocs are EXTREMELY rare here in Florida. Far more common is the Alligator and this balancing act would NOT be committed by the turtle unless he had a death wish. It would be akin to an antelope sleeping next to a lion. more than likely you would see the eyes of the reptilian in the photo. Also algae doesn't grow on the head of a Croc or Gator. Definitely a rock or log.

brilliant capture in every way. I keep looking at it wondering if he is just sunning himself or whether he is trying to wobble himself off the rock.
