Carrillo 38

Inside the Carriage House in Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park. Many may remember the actor Leo Carrillo as Pancho, the sidekick to the Cisco Kid in the tv program from the 1950's. As an escape from Hollywood, Carrillo bought 2538 acres in Carlsbad and developed it into a working rancho from 1937-1940. It was his dream to recreate the life of his heritage. Only 27 acres remain, and the site is a city park owned by city of Carlsbad, which is maintaining and restoring the many buildings, including a cantina, carriage house, barns, hacienda, blacksmith shop, cabana and foundry. There are dozens of pea cocks and hens running around, including an albino peacock. It's a lovely site and worth visiting if you're in the area.
