Laser Proton Acceleration
Siegfried Glenzer's team at SLAC/Stanford and collaborators at Tel Aviv University, Israel, are working on a new concept, called Laser Proton Acceleration, that could make proton accelerators 100 times smaller without giving up any of their power. More compact machines would cost less and could be built in more places, making their applications in fundamental physics, medicine and fabrication widely available around the world.
