LCLS-II’s Feed Caps and End Caps Installed
In October 2017 SLAC installed the first of LCLS-II’s cryogenic “feed caps” and “end caps.” LCLS-II’s superconducting particle accelerator requiring liquid 2.0K helium and other coolants to be constantly cycled through the accelerator during operations. These components provide the interfaces between the cryogenic distribution system above ground and “cryomodules” that accelerate the electron beam down in the tunnel 25 feet underground. The feed caps and end caps mark the first major components to be installed in the accelerator tunnel for LCLS-II’s superconducting accelerator.
