By the fireside, Easter Morven

© James Dyas Davidson

"Easter Morven is a lonely spot, and the empty old house seems to gape across the glens as if searching for its long lost inhabitants. Willie Michie (of Balmenach) looked back: 'The shepherd used Easter Morven a' summer and came doon to Ballater in the winter time. The last ones living there were Murisons.' Willie then added that the only folk that used it since were trappers: 'We used tae go wi' the horse and cairt to collect the hares and rabbits once a week.' "

From Ian Murray's 'In the Shadow of Lochnagar'.
