"gloomy sunday; where are they now?" sunday february 1944* feb.2012

*this painting is sadly inspired by the words of Rudolf Franz Ferdinand Hoess /not a poet/ taken from his auto-biography: "i have never in my life seen such beautiful colors as they went up the chimneys"

in reference to his one and only visit to one of his ovens at Auschwitz.

p.s. 36 members of my mothers family including all their children went up in "beautiful colors"

/she and two of her brothers were the sole survivors from a large family.

This "beautiful" painting is best viewed on black. /not sure how beautiful he meant, for there was no color chart/
