The Divide (Explored)

Another picture from my outing yesterday along Bexhill's seafront but a different perspective than my previous shot.

First of all thanks for all your kind words after my absence for a couple of weeks with the flu and being overworked lol.

Peter Chinnock and El Tel63 asked how I get such long exposure's, well basically you have to help that 10 stop filter sometimes with your camera settings.

I lower my cameras ISO to it's lowest setting which is ISO 100 (this is below it's native setting of 200), I up the aperture to around f/16 and above depending on the length of exposure I want or the lighting conditions, the moody weather helped as the light levels were'nt to bright so this helped as well, also zooming into an area can help reduce the light coming onto the sensor.

You can also with some practice over expose your long exposures which increases the shutter length then bring back detail in post processing (this option is only when really required though).

So basically with your settings you can really reduce the sensitivity of your sensor letting less light in giving you exposures of up 2-5 minutes or more with that 10 stop filter.

Make sure you have a tripod and cable release though.

This picture was taken with my Hitech Pro Stopper and Lee 0.9 ND grad giving me an exposure of 112 seconds.

This was with an aperture of f/16 so I still had the option to increase that aperture and add extra minutes on if needed but there wouldn't have been much point really as the sea has smoothed out nicely anyway so it's all about balance and the effect you are after.

Hope this helps but if anyone needs any more info please feel free to e-mail me where I willl be only to happy to help you.
