While I was walking the streets of Palma taking photos all over the city on my recent trip, I stumbled upon this boy, sitting on his skateboard rocking back and forth on an empty commercial pedestrian-only street.
I found the scene quite fascinating and took the photo. He saw me and his eyes awoke with curiosity to what was this guy doing walking and holding his phone up and ahead in one hand, pointing at him and with a smile on his face.
I couldn't help but thinking of all the times we street photographers go trough this. We feed off of interesting characters and stories, of fleeting sparkles of emotion in the faces of strangers, of that always sought after "decisive moment". And when we capture them, those souls become a part of us, not strangers anymore. We treasure our photos and when we look at them we remember forever that person, who becomes especial to us. And yet, unless there was eye contact, unless you got to talk to them before or after shooting, they just won't remember us...
We are keepers of faces and memory while we are somehow the forgotten...
