every little thing is gonna be alright
Live view, tripod mode. I am now familiar with the difference between phase-detection and contract-detection AF (the latter is used by the d700 during tripod mode, and achieves greater contrast). It does take a bit longer to autofocus this way.
I rarely shoot using live view, but there's some pretty cool stuff it does. For instance, I can move the focal point closer to the edge of the frame in tripod mode, which is pretty handy. It also has a leveling feature, and it gets the mirror out of the way, which further minimizes camera shake. (pp. 90 - 100, D700 User's Manual)
Thanks to Shannon for the title today! xoxo
