Captain Disable - Öryrkinn ósigrandi
On our way up
About this picture:
In the summer of 2005 I took part in a very interesting and fun project. There is a group of young disabled people who worked in the summertime in the youth-center I worked in. They have spent around three summers in a project which is among othter things aimed to attract peoples attention on the issues of accessibility for disabled people for example in buildings. They have done many things such as letting the major of Reykjavik drive around in wheelchair, playing against the icelandic handball team with them blinded and so on. In the project I took part, Captain disable, one of the purpose was to show that disabled people can do almost anything. They made a video about this project and the project won a great price in a competition in EU. In this part of the film (see picture) we helped Captain disable to climb a 800 meters high mountain Esja which is a very known recration area. We were several people who helped him up and the feeling was great when we reached the top. We also carried the weelchair for him so he could sit on the top of Esja....
