Fall Storm Over Clovis, Ca, October 3, 2010

Fall Storm Over Clovis, Ca, October 3, 2010

Lighting in the Central Valley of California only happens a couple times a year. This year has been really weak when it comes to thunderstorms. This storm brought two nights of lightning but most were rain wrapped and not very photogenic. Just before capturing this image, the storm moved directly overhead, so I quickly collapsed the legs on my tripod and set my camera on the tailgate of my truck under the safety of my camper shell lid. I THOUGHT I had the camera level, but realized I didn't after this was taken. I was excited about this shot because of the approaching car and great bolt that ripped across the sky, but was a little disappointed by the angle and droplet of water on the lens filter. After looking at this for a couple months, it has grown on me. I think the angle kind of adds to the drama of the scene, but what do I know.
