Common Wasp

The accidentally introduced Common Wasp {Vespula vulgaris) became established in the 1970s and is now common throughout New Zealand. It has become a major pest problem, particularly in the South Island where it has invaded native beech forests competing with native birds and insects for energy-rich honeydew.
