Today. This is Lake Peyto, and as I mentioned yesterday, this water is naturally that awesome bluish-green color due to the fact that it is glacially fed. Lake Peyto, you see, is the reason this trip happened and the reason I am rocking out my D700 these days. Knowing that we wanted to go somewhere in Canada, we searched flickr for "canada", and there stood Lake Peyto in all of its glory. Google maps told us that Peyto was a 30 hour drive from Chicago, but that wasn't gonna stop us. And it didn't! After planning our road trip, I found out from my buddy Ken (Turns out Ken is not a bad HDRtist) and a few others, that there is a ton to see in Banff National Park. Banff is an amazing place and I can't wait to share all of the amazing pictures that I captured there.

Getting to Peyto was a surreal moment. Our first day in Banff, we planned to drive from Lake Louise through Lake Moraine and up to Peyto. Since "Peyto" was not a valid destination in my GPS, we had to follow the map, which people from the GPS generation like myself have trouble with. After ending up in British Colombia, and nowhere near Peyto we decided to save it for the next day, and try to catch it at sunrise. The next day we woke up very early, and headed out determined to see Peyto. Once we arrived to the site, we realized that there was actually quite a bit of hiking in order to get to the Lake. We walked on and on, going past signs that said "Warning: This area contains a high presence of Grizzly Bears", and "It is unlawful to travel in groups of fewer than 4 due to Grizzly Bears in this area.". While no grizzly's were seen, we did spot a ton of fresh footprints on the snowy ground - anyone know what these footprints are from? Literally shaking our way up the path, we made it to Peyto, and it did not dissapoint.
