Bluebeard's Wives

A popular "tableau vivant," probably photographed in the early 1900s. Try it at your next party! (FOR A BIGGER VERSION OF THIS PHOTO WITH BETTER RESOLUTION, LOOK OVER HERE).

    Hello,

I allowed myself to post this photograph on a community dedicated to vintage photographs. With a link, of course.

Cool! Wish I could tell you where and when this photo was taken, but I don't know. I bought this snapshot at an ephemera show in Indianapolis, about five years ago.

A cabinet card from Ohio, probably a little earlier than this, recently sold for $430+ dollars on Ebay (I was the underbidder). It had six heads, rather than five, and was taken in a photographer's studio. Otherwise, similiar in all respects.

I think I remember seeing this stunt described in one of those old how-to-entertain-guests books from the early 1900s. Not the Cokesbury Stunt Book, but something of that ilk. I suppose that tableau vivant was just one of those things that people used to do a lot to entertain themseves at home, before radio and TV came along.
