Maharashtra Nature Park, Dharavi, Mumbai
Maharashtra Nature Park, earlier known as Mahim Nature Park is Situated in Mahim, opposite Dharavi Bus Depot, Mumbai. This is located on the Southern bank of the dirty Mithi River and squeezed between Asia's largest slum Dharavi and Mumbai's most sought after business location, the Bandra Kurla Complex! It is built on 5 meter deep garbage. It took 12 years of hard work put in by Shanta Chatterji, Chairperson of World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) to transform a 37 acres (15 hectares) of a dumping ground into a man-made mini forest. The park was opened to the school children in 1992.
