I never made any clothing before but i wanted to make a costume for Halloween and make it so I could wear it at other times too so it was practical.
I wanted to make a Totoro hoodie for ages. I bought a hoodie pattern off Fitz patterns but had to redesign the hood to make it easier to do the ears. I also redesigned the sleves to include mittes which i then added claws too. The sleeves have a hole at the back so you can get your hands out to do things.
The ears turned out a bit too floppy, and I would have done the teeth slightly differently if I did it again, but for my first costume and first clothing I love how it turned out.
It was a lot of hand sewing tho so I won't be doing a remake! XD"

looks cozy, i reused my costume i made for the festival of japan last year. I too will not be re-making as there was lots of hand stitching

Is there anyway that you can give a more detailed explanation as to how to make this hoodie? It is absolutely adorable and I would like to make one for myself.

      Thank you!

Hiya, Thanks, glad ya liked it. I can't believe Ghibli doesn't make somthing like this, they'd make a killing selling them i reckon! ^^
Hmm it's a bit tricky to explain how I made it as I mostly made it up as I went, with a bit of trial and error. I started out by buying a sewing pattern for a hoodie tho. (The raglan hoodie from this site: But I adjusted the hood to a hat pattern I made myself so I could make the ears as part of the hood rather than sew them on afterwards. (
The arms I just extended so they would form mittens. The claws and other details were just sewn on afterwards. The tummy patch is sewn into the front rather than sewn on top. I lined the hood so I could neatly put the teeth in.

Um can't think what else I did. Hope that helps a bit. Good luck making your hoodie and send me a link when you finish it. I'd love to see it! ^^
