Yasuni Orchids
Orchids are a global epiphyte family (Orchidaceae) of plants, estimated to be 25.000 to 35.000 species worldwide.
Many orchids grow as vine and have bulbous stems (pseudobulbs) that store water. The origin of the name “orchid” is the Greek word meaning “testicle”, a reference to the appearance of the bulb.
Some orchids have succulents leaves filled with spongy tissue and covered by a waxy cuticle to reduce evaporative water loss.
Orchids depends on a mychorrhizae (fungi), it grows partially within the orchid root and facilitate uptake water and minerals.
