305/366 - 2008
An old, abandoned stretch of US Highway 70 was finally reopened to foot and bike traffic on October 30, 2008. This marks a new era for this gorgeous section of old concrete highway, which runs from the top of Old Fort Mountain just east of Black Mountain, past Mill Creek, to the base of the mountain at the town of Old Fort.
The road fell into a state of disrepair after 1954, when a terrible slide damaged an entire section near what was called "Point Lookout" The four mile section was closed completely after the completion of Interstate 40 through town.
It was one of the oldest and most scenic transportation corridors in the South.
