Le Du View

The approach to the attractive bench above is very pretty, but the view from it is startling. This is the site of the LeDu hydraulic gold mine, adjacent to the abandoned town of North Bloomfield and the Malakoff Diggins basin. Like the Diggins, this mine went out of business after the Sawyer Decision rendered this highly destructive form of gold mining unprofitable.

The bench is mounted on a concrete slab with this inscription:

"Memory

Wendell A. LeDu

and Hydraulic Monster

the family."
