the gourd bento
OK, can you see the gourd?
I called it the gourd bento because I used my gourd shaped onigiri mold (from Daiso) for the Forbidden rice and then placed sweet potato circles on top to emphasize the gourd shape. There are golden beet flowers with purple carrot centers. I have found if you lightly steam the purple carrots and keep them for a day, the purple color seeps into the orange centers and gets darker! With very skinny carrots, the entire carrot turns purple ~ it's very cool.
Anyway, the rest of the bento has roast chicken, a radish, some sliced tomatoes (alternating red, green zebra and yellow), and purple carrot spears. Fruit section has strawberries, white nectarines, black grapes (under), Bing cherries and golden raspberries. Small section has no-salt cottage cheese with blueberries, pumpkin seeds, wheat germ and inverted alien creature.
MisterMan has a pool party day! Hope he makes a splash ;)
