Details: George Richard Maclure (1911-1943), born in Ceylon on 9 July 1911, son of Richard Maclure and Mary Margaret Maclure (nee Grieg), of Dunrowan, Rhu, Dunbartonshire, later of New Galloway, Kirkcudbrightshire.


Attended Hurst Grange School, Stirling.


Attended Sherborne School (Westcott House) September 1925-July 1930; 6th form; School Prefect; House Prefect; Head of House; Sergeant in OTC. George Maclure was a school friend of Alan Turing.




WW2, Gunner in the 148 (The Bedfordshire Yeomanry) Field Regiment, Royal Artillery. Service Number 991711. Died on 19 June 1943 while a prisoner of war at Tonchen, Siam, aged 31.


He was buried at Kinsayoke No.1 Jungle Camp, and reburied on 13 March 1946 at Kanchanaburi War Cemetery, Thailand, 8. F. 67.
