Details: Michael Thomas Russell Yeo (1920-1943), born 10 May 1920, son of Frank Russell Yeo and of Evelyn Mary Yeo of The Old Rectory, Thurlestone, Devon.

 

Attended The Dragon School, Oxford.

 

Attended Sherborne School (The Green) September 1934-July 1938.

 

WW2, Sub-Lieutenant in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve (RNVR). First appears in the Navy List at HMS St Christopher, the coastal forces base at Fort William joining in October 1941 with a seniority in the RNVR of 31 July 1941. He is shown in MTBs 327 and 331, almost certainly for training, and then goes to HMS Nile, the Alexandria base for MTBs, joining in January 1942. Killed in action on H.M. M.T.B. 316 in Straits of Messina on 17 July 1943.

Obituary in 'The Shirburnian', December 1944: 'Michael Thomas Russell Yeo, Sub-Lieutenant, R.N.V.R., was an outstanding swimmer at School, and for some years held the School 50 Yards record. He was always keen on sailing and achieved his ambition when appointed to M.T.B.'s. He was killed in action in August 1943, during the Sicilian Campaign.'
