Details: John Athelstan Elliott (1911-1940), born 16 September 1911, son of Edwin Athelstan Elliott and Adeline Elliott, of Kinson, Bournemouth. Husband of Nancye May Elliott (nee Faris) of Braewood, New Road, Ferndown, Dorset.

 

Attended Sherborne Preparatory School.

 

Attended Sherborne School (Abbeylands) May 1925-December 1928.

 

Drain pipe and brick manufacturer.

 

WW2, Second Lieutenant, 310 Bty., 72 H.A.A. Regt. Royal Artillery. Died on 15 November 1940 at Boscombe Hospital, Hampshire, aged 29.

Obituary in 'The Shirburnian', December 1944: 'John Elliott, who was killed on active service while serving in the Royal Artillery, was the youngest son of Mr and Mrs Elliott, of Kinson, Bournemouth. He was at Abbeylands from 1929 to 1932; his elder brother, Tom, having preceded him leaving in 1921. After leaving School he was an active member of the Old Shirburnian Golfing Society, amongst whose members he made many friends.'
