Details: George Angrave Dawson (1910-1940), born 4 November 1910, son of Thomas Chambers Dawson (Old Shirburnian) and Dorothy Dawson, of Harcourt Lodge, Chapeltown, Sheffield.

 

Attended Bramcote School, Scarborough.

 

Attended Sherborne School (Abbeylands) September 1924-December 1928; Lance-Corporal in OTC.

 

Sheffield University.

 

Engineer.

 

WW2, 2nd Lieutenant, 270 Field Company, Royal Engineers. Killed on active service near Tidworth, Berkshire, on 22 April 1940, aged 39.

Obituary in 'The Shirburnian', December 1944: 'George Dawson, who was killed on active service in 1940, while serving with the Royal Engineers, was the elder son of Mr and Mrs T.C. Dawson of Harcourt Lodge, Chapel Town, near Sheffield. He was at Abbeylands from 1924 to 1928.'
