Details: John Maurice Wakefield Knott was born on 1 January 1920 in Dublin, Ireland, son of Lieutenant-Colonel John Espenett Knott CMG, DSO (1884-1959), and Dorothy Mary Knott (née Bayly) (1884-1969), of Birchyfields, Bromyard, Herefordshire. Brother of William Espenett Bayly Knott (1922-2018) who served in WW2 with the Royal Marines.
Attended The Downs School, Colwall, Malvern, Worcestershire.
Attended Sherborne School (Abbey House) September 1933-December 1937; 6th form (Army Class); Certificate 'A'.
Royal Military College, Sandhurst.
WW2: Lieutenant (service no.95220), 6th Royal Tank Regiment, R.A.C. Mentioned in despatches.
Killed in action at El Adem, Libya, on 11 June 1942.

Knightsbridge War Cemetery, Acroma, Libya, 10. K. 23. Inscription on his headstone: ‘VERILY, VERILY I SAY UNTO YOU, HE THAT BELIEVETH IN ME HATH EVERLASTING LIFE’.
