Details: Howard Harry John Leigh-Clare (1915-1943), born 7 November 1915, son of H.J.L. Leigh-Clare, Ceylon Civil Service.


Attended St Dunstan's preparatory school, Burnham-on-Sea.


Attended Sherborne School (The Green) September 1929-July 1934; 6th form; shooting viii team, 1932, 1933, 1934.


Trinity College, Cambridge.




WW2, Flight-Lieutenant, 517 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve (RAFVR). Killed in action over England on 9 December 1943, aged 28.

Obituary in 'The Shirburnian', December 1944: 'Harry Howard John Leigh-Clare, Flight-Lieutenant, R.A.F.V.R., was killed on active service in December 1943. At School he was a member of the Shooting VIII for three years and later went up to Trinity College, Cambridge. He served with Coastal Command and was killed when his aeroplane crashed on taking off for an operational flight.'
