Details: Peter Rawdon Newman (1920-1943), born 3 January 1920, son of Charles Herbert Alfred Newman, civil engineer, and Gertrude Clare Newman, of The Court House, Litton Cheney, Dorset (formerly of Lallaguda, Deccan, India).


Attended Tyttenhanger Lodge School, Seaford.


Attended Sherborne School (Abbey House) September 1933-July 1938; 6th form; PT Instructor; Trebles (1936, 37, 38); 1st Class Gym; Sergeant in OTC.


Royal Military Academy, Woolwich.


WW2, Captain, Royal Artillery, attached 654 A.O.P. Squadron, Royal Air Force. Killed in action at Salerno, Italy, on 16 September 1943, aged 23.

Obituary, 'The Shirburnian', December 1944: 'Peter Newman was not a particularly prominent member of the School but was always intensely interested in all its activities, and never failed to give of his best. He was a popular and useful member of his House. He passed into R.M.A., Woolwich, in 1938, and was a Captain at the time of his death in action in October 1943.'
