Details: Roger Hawtrey (1913-1942), born 2 December 1913, son of Captain Wilfred Robert John Hawtrey (Royal Artillery) of Cornerways, Northcliff Gardens, Shanklin, Isle of Wight, formerly of Lymington Cottage, Hythe, Southampton.


Attended Bigshotte School, Wokingham, Berkshire.


Attended Sherborne School (The Green) September 1927-July 1932; School Prefect; Class Leader with Badge; Lance-Corporal in OTC.



He was a keen golfer and qualified for the Keppel Cup.


WW2, Lieutenant (Sp), Malayan Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve. Presumed to have died on or since 15 February 1942 following the sinking of HMS Giang Bee in the Banka Strait by a Japanese destroyer on 13 February 1942 during the retreat from Singapore, aged 28.
