Details: Stephen Charles Francis (1917-1942), born 24 July 1917, son of Brigadier-General Sidney Goodall Francis, DSO, JP, and Catherine Gwendoline Francis, of Sway, Hampshire (formerly of Busketts, Woodlands, Southampton); brother of James Lowry Francis (1920-1945).

 

Attended West Hill Park School, Titchfield, Hampshire.

 

Attended Sherborne School (Westcott House) January 1931-December 1935; 6th form; Prefect; Head of House; School Prefect; PT Instructor with Badge; Corporal in OTC; member of The Duffers.

 

Royal Military College, Sandhurst; West Yorkshire Regiment.

 

WW2, Captain, 1st Battalion, West Yorkshire Regiment (The Prince of Wales's Own). D.S.O.; twice mentioned in despatches; wounded. Killed in action in Burma on 8 March 1942, aged 24.
