Details: David Spencer Cox (1921-1940), born 15 March 1921, son of Spencer Cox and Grace Leslie Cox of Earl's Court, London (formerly of Grey Garth, Budleigh Salterton).


Attended Bigshotte School, Wokingham, Berkshire.


Attended Sherborne School (Abbeylands) September 1934-July 1937; scholar; 6th form.


Chartered accountancy.


WW2, Pilot Officer, No.149 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve (RAFVR)


On 18/19 September 1940 at 19.25hrs, 149 Squadron took off from Mildenhall, Suffolk. He is thought to have been killed in action, probably hit by flak, over the English Channel.

Obituary in 'The Shirburnian', December 1944: 'David Cox, who was killed in 1940, while serving as a Pilot Officer in the R.A.F., was the son of Mr Spencer Cox of Budleigh Salterton. He was at Abbeylands from 1934 to 1937.'
