Details: Alexander William Anderson (1922-1943), born 16 September 1922, son of P.A. Anderson, Mount Prospect, Waterford, Ireland.


Attended Sherborne School (The Green) September 1936-April 1940; 6th form; House Prefect; PT Instructor with Badge; Sergeant in OTC.


Special Entry, Royal Naval College, Dartmouth.


WW2, Sub-Lieutenant, HM Submarine, Trooper, Royal Navy. Killed on active service in HM Submarine 'Trooper' in the Mediterranean on 17 October 1943, aged 21.

Obituary in 'The Shirburnian', December 1944: 'Alexander William Anderson, Sub-Lieutenant, R.N.V.R., was lost in H.M.S. "Trooper" in November 1943. He was always keen on sailing and joined the Navy through the Special Entry. He served as a Midshipman in H.M.S. "Nelson" before volunteering for service in submarines. His cheerful and friendly nature made him many friends.'
