Details: Sydney Harold Wilfred Herbage (1896-1915), born 31 August 1896 in Sidcup, Kent, son of Sidney Frank Herbage and Clara Mary Herbage of Clattern Elms, 12, St. James Road, Kingston-on-Thames, Surrey.

Brother of Kenneth Alfred Herbage (1899-1965).


Attended Elm House School, Surbiton, Surrey.


Attended Sherborne School (The Green) September 1910- July 1913; Shooting VIII team 1913; House XV colours; Gym colours.


Occupation: Clerk at the Stock Exchange.


WW1, Rifleman & Signaller in the London Regiment, 1st Bn., London Rifle Brigade. Went to France on 4 November 1914. Killed in Flanders, France, on 20 January 1915.

Stock Exchange War Memorial


Sherborne School: War Memorial Staircase; Book of Remembrance; The Green roll of honour. Sidney F. Herbage donated £2.2s. towards the Sherborne School War Memorial in memory of his son Sidney H.W. Herbage.


In an informal will made by S.H.W. Herbage on 17 November 1914, he left all of his money to Sidney Frank Herbage, his gold links, miniature rifle and rifle to Kenneth Alfred Herbage, and the rest of his belonging to Clara Mary Herbage.
