Details: Patrick Alfred Russell (1889-1917), born 20 July 1889 in Hamilton, Lanarkshire, second son of Patrick Brown Russell and Margaret D. W. Russell (nee Walker) of 11 Carlton Terrace, Edinburgh.


Attended the Edinburgh Academy.


Attended Sherborne School (Abbeylands) September 1903-July 1907. Took part in the 1905 Sherborne Pageant


'After leaving School he adopted no profession, but became an expert rider and steeplechaser.' A member of the Duke of Buccleuch and Northumberland Hunt, and a prominent rider at the Border Hunt Steeplechase at Kelso.


WW1, 2nd Lieutenant in the Lovat's Scouts, Yeomanry (T.F.), attached to the Royal Flying Corps. Served throughout the Gallipoli Campaign. On his return to England he entered the RFC; obtained a Pilot's Certificate in September 1916; served with the Expeditionary Force in France and Flanders. Killed in action while flying in France on 2 April 1917.
