Details: Leonard William Hugh Stevenson (1896-1916), born 25 June 1896, younger son of Isaac Stevenson of Victoria Park, Londonderry, later of Hampstead Hall, Londonderry; nephew of Mr W. J. MacGeagh MacCaw, M.P.


Attended Foyle College, Londonderry, and Eastman's RVA School, Winchester, Hampshire.


Attended Sherborne School (Abbey House) September 1910-July 1914.


Attended Trinity College, Dublin, and passed his Junior Fresh whilst awaiting his commission.


WW1, Lieutenant in the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, 9th (S.) Bn. (County Tyrone). In October 1915 he received his commission in the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers and went to France. He was awarded the Military Cross in May 1916, for conspicuous gallantry and promptness during a successful raid on the enemy's trenches. Killed on 1 July 1916, aged 20, at Thiepval whilst leading his men in the charge of the Ulster Division during the Somme offensive.
